WOW! I love reading history, but with this book - I felt it! A cross between poetry and prose, this firsthand account captures the raw -- often unsettling -- truth about war. I could taste the death lingering in the low hanging clouds. When I read about the true meaning of the "1000 yard stare," I could feel the weary gazes from the battered soldiers penetrate my soul like a silent, eerie omen. I enjoy devouring almost any book about our great historical figures, but this gripping story takes you to an entirely different dimension as an ordinary Marine recounts his frontline experiences that are simply unforgettable.Also I saw that a couple others had given this a one star because they were having issues viewing it - it's not blurry, they need to figure out what's wrong with their kindle/browser and not blame the book because the book is not blurry at all. It's annoying that they're leaving undeserved bad reviews for one of the best books in the genre.
